SQE1 study map

See the whole exam. Find your next step.

SQE Cracker breaks large assessment areas into focused subject books. This map shows how they fit together and offers a sensible route through them.

  • FLK1 + FLK2
  • Official structure, suggested study route
  • Checked 26 September 2026

The subject list is alphabetical for browsing. Several entries are focused parts of a broader SQE1 assessment area: the FLK1 tax books belong with Business Law and Practice, for example, while Property Taxation belongs with Property Practice.

The SRA sets the assessment areas and exam sessions. The numbered route below is our study suggestion, not an official order or a change to your current plan. If you have already started, carry on from your next useful topic.

Some knowledge crosses the map.

Keep these in view throughout.

Professional Conduct

Ethics and conduct can be tested across both FLKs. The separate FLK2 entry in SQE Cracker opens the shared conduct material, while practice questions remain FLK-specific. Revisit it alongside the other subjects rather than leaving it to the end.

Solicitors’ Accounts

Keep this as one focused book, then practise applying it in both Wills and Property contexts. The SRA places accounts questions in those contexts in the January 2027 exam sessions.

How the exam groups subjects

From January 2027, this is the SRA’s session structure, not a learning sequence. Questions are mixed within each session.

FLK1

Session 1

Business Law and Practice, Dispute Resolution, Legal Services

Session 2

Tort, Contract Law, Legal System

FLK2

Session 1

Wills and Administration, Trusts Law, Land Law, Accounts in Wills

Session 2

Property Practice, Criminal Liability, Criminal Law and Practice, Accounts in Property

Professional Conduct remains pervasive across all four sessions.

A clear next move, wherever you are.

  1. Choose a foundation.

Open the first area of an FLK, pick one book, and work through a topic in Learn mode.

  2. Keep your momentum.

Carry on with your current subject. Use the map to see which nearby books complete that assessment area.

  3. Switch to mixed recall.

Use targeted MCQs and timed session mocks, then let the report point you back to weak topics.
